What goes into your price list, and why it takes about ninety minutes

The price list is what your site quotes from. Here is what we gather in one sitting, what stays off it, and how you keep it current after go-live.

One sitting, not a weekend of spreadsheets

Every quoting build starts with your price list: the rates your site will quote your customer from. We put it together in one sitting of about ninety minutes, usually on a call, with you talking and me writing.

You do not need anything prepared. Most tradies carry their prices in their head, and the questions pull them out faster than a blank spreadsheet would.

What goes on it

Each line item is one job at one price, and the questions that move it. A downlight swap is a figure per light. A blocked drain might be a call-out plus a figure for the first hour. A hot water replacement depends on the size and whether it is gas or electric.

We also write down what is not in the price — parts over a certain cost, after-hours work, access that needs a second person — so the quote your customer gets says it plainly rather than surprising them on the day.

What stays off it

Anything you would never price without seeing it. Renovations, insurance work, anything behind a wall you have not opened. Those stay as enquiries, and the site asks for photos or a call instead of putting a number on them.

A shorter list you trust beats a long one you would argue with. It is easy to add jobs later, once you have seen which ones your customers actually ask about.

Keeping it current

Prices move. When yours do, you send me the new figures and they go live as part of the monthly. Each quote carries the date it holds until, so a quote issued last month is still honoured at last month’s price and the new one applies from the day it changes.
